This position is mainly responsible for facilities tasks such as custodial duties, general inspection and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, and carpentry work, to include replacing light bulbs and ballasts, clean and maintain grounds and parking decks, clean and maintain bike paths, replace flags on city properties, and respond to calls to investigate and repair various facility related service requests.
Laborers operate a wide variety of tools and equipment, including, but not limited to, backhoe, end loader, jackhammer, skid steer, chippers, and compressors.
Examples of Duties Areas of responsibilities may also include:
Repair, replace, clean and install drop ceilings and demolish walls, rooms, etc.
prior to remodeling Install carpet and tile Assemble/disassemble office furniture Painting Set up and clean-up of special events Tree trimming and landscape duties Repair curbing and sidewalks Maintain, inspect, and repair the storm sewer collection system Respond to emergency situations, such as snow removal, flooding from rain events, signs down etc.
Support other City departments/divisions in the abatement of emergency situations Upgrade to Equipment Operator, Maintenance Technician, Sign Technician, Crew Leader or Welder as needed Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent 1 year of experience in Public Works and/or construction industry Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with co-workers and the public Able to work under varying environmental conditions and lift up to 75 pounds On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, reporting no later than 60 minutes of the call-in Class A Commercial Driver's License or acquire within six months of hire (in house training available) If selected, successful completion of a background investigation, physical, functional capacity evaluation and drug screen are required.
CDL holders, they will be run through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Clearinghouse pre-employment.
